Sodium Palmate- A basic ingredient that comes from the saponification process, what makes soap soap! Our palm oil is always sustainably sourced too. Sodium Cocoate- A gentle surfactant (cleaning agent) made from coconut oil. Water- Just plain old water! Glycerin- A natural byproduct of the saponification process. While this can be made from animal byproducts, our glycerin is vegetable derived and our soaps are all vegan! Fragrance- We only use perfume that is free of phthalates. Sodium Chloride- Salt is an antiseptic and astringent. Added to soap products, it helps soften and hydrate skin. Pentasodium Pentetate- A chelating agent which means it keeps ingredients in the soap from further combining and making the soap break down. Organic Fair Trade Shea Butter- A moisturizing ingredient. The highly concentrated vitamins and fatty acids make shea butter one of the best moisturizers out there! Olive Oil- A moisturizing agent with Vitamins A & E for healthy skin care.
All of our ingredients are naturally derived. This means they come from nature, not a lab! We use things like organic fair trade shea butter, coconut and olive oil. We also only ever use paraben-free fragrances to make sure that your skin is taken care of just like your purchases take care of other people in the world!
We refuse to add parabens, or a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, in all of our soaps.
All soap, including SoapBox’s products, are made using lye. In a properly produced soap, lye is a raw ingredient used to make the soap, but the lye doesn't exist in the final product. Think of lye like the ingredients that go into a cake. The sugar and eggs that you don't want to eat are a part of creating a delicious treat. The same happens with lye through the saponification process.
Glycerin is a natural part of the vegetable oils we use to make our herbal soap, so it is a natural part of all SoapBox Soaps. Glycerin soap is gentler on skin than most soaps, making it a good choice for people who have particularly dry or sensitive skin.
The use of palm oil has attracted the concern of environmental groups due to the destruction of natural habitats in Southeast Asia. Because of these ethical concerns, SoapBox Soaps has decided to only use sustainably sourced palm oil.
Our soap is completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-rich cereals including wheat, kamut, spelt, barley, rye, malts, and triticale.
All of the packaging of our bottled products, including shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and body wash, is 100% recyclable and we work with How2Recycle to put instructions for recycling on all of our bottles.
SoapBox Soaps has been certified by PETA as cruelty free and vegan friendly. We love our furry friends! The only testing we do is on ourselves, and never by any animals. So you can rest assured that all SoapBox Soaps are safe for human use, because the product is solely tested by your fellow man.

When a customer buys one of our products, whether in a store or online, SoapBox donates a bar of soap to a person in need. Domestically, we work with an organization called Clean The World which collects hotel bar soap remnants and remakes them into new bars! We give these bars to homeless shelters and food pantries around the country. Soap is a top requests for shelters due to its frequency of use vs. the infrequency of soap donations to shelters. In fact, 66% of our bar donations are given in the US! Internationally, we do a few different things. First, we work with local soap makers and local markets to purchase soap in country and give it to schools, orphanages, and medical centers. Second, we work with non-profits in the area to start soap making initiatives to teach and skill to local people and make soap for the community. Third, we support soap recycling organizations which collect hotel bar soap remnants and remakes them into bars to give to the community. We work this way to cut down on our carbon footprint (no need to ship soap overseas!) and to ensure we don't harm the local soap makers business by flooding their market with donated/free products. To provide hygiene education, our team works with over 30 non-profits and non-government-organizations (NGO's) both domestically and internationally to educate, and empower the communities we serve. We especially highlight the importance of soap and hygiene in each of our aid campaigns.
A Hope Code is a unique code printed on the back of all of our products that is linked to an aid project where that product's donation will go to support! To find out which project your purchase is supporting, simply enter your code and you will get to see photos from that project and more information about the work being done! Customers can enter the code at the top of every page on our website, our home page, or our mission page!
