Brush up on your skincare routine before stepping out this summer
The sun’s out, and temperatures are rising as we try to keep it cool during the scorching summer. So how can we beat the heat and save our skin from the harsh temps and rays? Well, just as you pack away the scarves, gloves, and boots in between the seasons, you should also swap out your skincare routine.
The heat of summer is a stressful time for your skin. To help you beat the heat, we’re sharing a couple of our favorite tips for keeping on top of your skincare during the hotter months.
Water, humidity, and heat can all wash away your powder or liquid foundation. Luckily, you can avoid a makeup meltdown by investing in a primer to keep everything in place.
If oily skin has you worried, shop around for a primer with mattifying call outs. It’ll help keep shine at bay and prevent your pores from clogging up.
Even better, skip the summertime foundation and make your own tinted moisturizer using a small amount of sunscreen mixed with an equal amount of your foundation. Primed, prepped and ready to take summer on!
For any moisturizer or treatment to work on your skin, it needs to be squeaky clean. To get there, you need to exfoliate to slough away dead skin cells that clog your pores and reveal your freshest glowing skin yet.
Our coconut bar soap won’t just buff away impurities and dry skin with its gently exfoliating apricot seeds, but will also leave your skin feeling nourished and hydrated with its infusion of shea butter and olive oil. Exfoliation makes your face a better canvas for applying makeup, too. Try to alternate between homemade and market-bought exfoliators to maintain a natural balance.
Avoid exfoliating every day, as that can lead to rashes and breakouts. Aim for about 2 – 3 times a week and scrub in a circular motion and without excessive pressure.
The sun’s rays are at their harshest between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. in summer. So, if you’re planning on heading out, make sure you cover up with sunglasses and protect your lips with a balm, preferably one with SPF.
It’s easy to forget that the delicate skin around your eyes and your lips need a little extra attention, but these areas are very sensitive to harsh rays and should be protected to help keep that delicate skin looking refreshed, youthful and healthy. These areas are very susceptible to wrinkles so care for your skin now so later down the road fine lines and wrinkles can be kept at bay.
Summer is the perfect time to invest in moisturizers and serums that come with an additional antioxidant punch. Vitamin C, for example, protects the skin from environmental damage while boosting collagen reproduction. A holy grail ingredient for skin care products.
Serums and creams loaded with antioxidants and natural extracts work to reduce inflammation, repair your skin, and destroy harmful free radicals.
If you love spending the days in the sun, make sure to treat your sun kissed skin with soothing shea butter to help replenish hydration. One of our favorite ways is adding a delightfully nourishing shea butter infused bath bomb to a nightly bath. It’s a great way to unwind after a sweaty day, and the ingredients leave your skin feeling moisturized and smooth. They’re also free from harmful chemicals and will leave you smelling fresh and clean.
Remember to keep your skin hydrated with something light and fast-absorbing like our Coconut Milk & Sandalwood deep moisture lotion, infused with coconut oil, shea butter and aloe. Coconut oil is extremely replenishing when it comes to looking after dry skin that’s taken a beating in the summer heat.
What’s more, coconut oil can be used for just about anything, especially when it comes to avoiding burnt and dried out skin. The ingredient offers skin-protective properties and natural anti-bacterial components. If you’re planning on spending loads of time in the sun, you’ll want to use coconut-based products for healthier, sun-protected skin.
Drinking water helps your body to function at its very best internally and is also key in keeping your skin looking and feeling fresh. Proper hydration helps to flush out toxins and that has a serious impact on your skin. For supple, clearer and healthier looking/feeling skin aim to sip water throughout the day to unveil your best side yet. You’ll not only glow on the outside, but you’ll feel just as fabulous on the inside too.
Summertime means sunshine and time spent outdoors. Protecting yourself from UV rays and dry, cracking skin is important to prevent premature aging and protect your skin’s health.
So, before you head outdoors this summer, be sure to brush up on these skin care tips.
